Homemade Tea Blends

Homemade Tea Blends

Have you ever considered making your own tea blends? Does the thought of making your own tea seem complicated? Well look no further.

Here are some simple suggestions of ingredients you can find at home:

  • Lemon
  • Ginger
  • Mint
  • Rosemary
  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
  • Basil
  • Orange
  • Pineapple
  • Apple
  • Hibiscus

Guess what! The blend in your tea bags is simply dried out ingredients which means you can do the same at home. Here’s how to make simple tea blends out of any food in your kitchen:

1) Use a peeler or a knife to create thin strips of your food of choice. If you are using a plant/herb, using the individual leaves of the plant works as well.

2) Lay everything flat out on a baking sheet

3) Bake at 200 degrees for 2 hours (Add more time if your ingredients aren’t completely dry yet)

4) If you have a little moisture left, you can choose to leave your food of choice overnight

5) Once your food of choice is completely dry, crumble or break your ingredients into smaller pieces to fit in your tea pot or cup

6) once your tea blend is made, we suggest using 1 tablespoon of blend for every 8 ounces of boiling water

7) The longer you let your blend brew, the stronger the flavor will be so mindful of how strong you like your tea to know when to remove the blend

If you want to be fancy, you can buy empty tea bags and fill them with different blend combinations to make your own tea bags that are ready to grab and go.

As a little bonus tip, here are some tea blend pairing ideas of what tastes good together. *Mix equal parts of each to get the best balance of flavor:

  • Lemon Ginger
  • Peppermint Lemon Ginger
  • Lemon Lavender
  • Minty Lemon
  • Hibiscus Pineapple
  • Orange Lemon

These are just a few combinations to get you started. We'll love to hear your favorite tea blends and if we missed any of your favorite blends.
